HITHER WOODS
HITHER WOODS
This Montauk residence is structurally one of the most technically demanding homes in the firm’s portfolio.
Designed by Bates Masi + Architects, the entire second floor is carried by a system of steel trusses, allowing the exterior walls to read as uninterrupted planes of siding and glass with no visible means of support. Structural engineer Maresca Associates worked alongside us to realize a system that performs invisibly.
The home was constructed on a strict six-by-six-foot grid — every wall, every siding panel, every ceiling board aligned to that module. Landscape architect Stimson extended that precision to the grounds. From the road, the house is nearly invisible.
